"Sangeeta: From Actress to Renowned Film Director in Pakistani Cinema"

Sangeeta, originally introduced to the film industry as an actress, rose to immense popularity as a film director. Her journey in cinema began as a child artist in the film “Koh-e-Noor” (1966). She made her debut as a leading actress in “Kangan” (1969), and went on to star in notable films such as “Meri Zindagi Hay Naghma” (1972) and “Teray Meray Sapnay” (1975).

 

However, Sangeeta's true legacy lies in her work behind the camera. She directed over 70 films, with “Society Girl” (1976) marking her debut as a director while also playing the lead role. Among her most acclaimed films as a director are “Muthi Bhar Chawal” (1978), “Khilona” (1996), and “Nikah” (1998).

 

Born as Parveen in 1957 in Karachi, Sangeeta comes from a family deeply rooted in the film industry. She is the elder sister of actresses Kaveeta and Hina Khan. Her brother, Ali Raza, was a producer, while her mother, Mehbat Bano, worked as an extra actress, and her father, Syed Tayyab Ali, was a film distributor.
