Rangeela remains a
legendary figure in Pakistani cinema, celebrated for his unique blend of comedy
and versatility. Known for his multifaceted talents, Rangeela wasn't just a
comedian—he was also a singer, film director, writer, producer, distributor,
and even a music composer.
Born Mohammad Saeed and of
Pashtun origin, Rangeela began his film career with “Jatti” (1958) as a painter
in Lahore. After years of struggling, he achieved his big break with “Hath Jori”
(1964).
In 1969, Rangeela amazed
audiences with his exceptional work in “Dia Aur Toofan”, where he wore multiple
hats as a producer, director, and singer.
His debut as a leading man came
with “Rangeela” (1970), and he went on to star in several notable films,
including “Dil Aur Dunya” (1971), “2 Rangeelay”, “Meri Zindagi Hay Naghma”
(1972), “Parday Mein Rehnay Do”, and “Rangeela Aur Munawar Zarif” (1973).
Despite a setback with “Kubra Ashiq” (1973) and a period of reduced visibility
in the mid-70s, he made a comeback as both a comedian and a film director.
Rangeela also dabbled in
singing, with his first song appearing in the Punjabi film “Banki Nar” (1966).
Over his prolific career,
Rangeela appeared in more than 550 films. He passed away on May 24, 2005, in
Lahore, leaving behind a legacy as a true icon of Pakistani cinema.
