"Portrait of Legendary Director Nazar-ul-Islam, who rose to fame from East Pakistan and became an iconic figure in Karachi's cinema industry."

Director Nazar-ul-Islam

Nazar-ul-Islam was born in 1939 in Calcutta and later moved to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). After the tragic events of 1971, he relocated to Karachi. Prior to this, he had directed a few Urdu and Bengali films in East Pakistan. When he arrived in Karachi, Ilyas Rashidi, the late founder of the weekly magazine “Nigar”, also known as the "Father of Film Journalism," greatly encouraged him. Rashidi even helped Nazar step into the world of filmmaking, and Nazar made his first and only film “Ehsaas”. The success of this film opened many doors for him.

Later, he directed several notable films, including “Sharafat”, “Haqeeqat”, “Aina”, “Amber”, “Zindagi”, “Sheeshe Ka Ghar”, “Haseena Maan Jayegi”, “Bandish”, “Nahin Abhi Nahin”, “Aangan”, “Love Story”, “Deewanay Do”, “Zameen Aasman”, “Chakkar”, “Madam Bavari”, “Barood Ki Chhaon Mein”, “Kaale Chor”, “Aandhi”, “Nargis”, “Laila”, and “Khwaish”.

 Nazar-ul-Islam passed away on January 11, 1994.
