Announcement to Remove Web Series “Barzakh” from YouTube

The controversial Indian web series “Barzakh”, starring Pakistani superstars Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, has been announced for removal from YouTube. The series, written and directed by Pakistani filmmaker Asim Abbasi, was produced by Indian producers specifically for the Indian streaming platform Zee5. Released on an Indian YouTube channel on July 19, the first and second episodes of “Barzakh” won the hearts of both Pakistani and Indian fans. However, after watching the third episode, Pakistani viewers were outraged.

The third episode featured romantic scenes and intimacy between two male characters, in addition to displaying content related to obscenity, adultery, and the indoctrination of children. Following the strong backlash in Pakistan over the portrayal of homosexuality, the Indian YouTube channel announced on Instagram that the series would be removed from YouTube starting August 9. In their statement, they mentioned that the decision was made with Pakistani viewers in mind, and they respect and value their audience.
